Ellman Family Vineyards

We first worked with the Ellman family when they owned and operated one of America's largest independent mattress manufacturing companies. The family sold the business several years ago and began to follow their passions... one of which is limited production, premium wine.

Although we had no experience in the category (other than enjoying fine wine ourselves!) the trust and respect developed over the years prompted the family to reach out to Barnum Design to help them develop a brand identity for a new series of premium California wines. As you might guess by the number of early design studies, we saw the project as a rare opportunity to explore design solutions and build an identity that evoked the passions and sensibilities of both the owners and connosieurs of hand-crafted, limited production wine. Meeting and exceeding the expectations of an educated and passionate audience while carving out a distinctive visual identity was a unique challenge. In it's final form the branding, packaging and web site evoked an elegant and sophisticated sensibility the resonated with the audience. In fact, it resonated so well that EFV's first Pinot Noir was sold out within a few weeks of it's introduction exclusively through on line sales. Not bad for a first try!
